Section 316.193, Florida Statutes, requires ignition interlock devices to be installed on the vehicles of certain persons convicted of DUI.

The ignition interlock program affects those arrested and convicted of DUI after July 1, 2002, upon eligibility of reinstatement for a permanent or restricted driver license. The ignition interlock device is also required when a driver convicted of DUI applies for a restricted license for work or business purposes (s. 322.271, F.S.).

Individuals with Interlock devices in their vehicle must report to an Interlock service center monthly to have the data from the interlock device downloaded. If the report shows violations DHSMV will be notified and the driver will be ordered to contact our agency for an educational session.

If a second violation is committed the individual will be directed to our agency for the development of a case management plan and monthly periodic update meetings. A third violation will require a referral to an area substance abuse treatment agency.
